| | Well, I changed my costume idea slightly.
I never decided on what to do about my poodle skirt, I was really unhappy with the fabric I bought and I never dealt with returning it and I was staring to feel a little discouraged about the sewing. I looked around a lot for a skirt that I could use that I could just add a poodle applique to, but no luck finding one that was the right color or even the right shape. We have been shopping so much and we barely even found any of the accessories we needed, nowhere had my shoes, nowhere had Cj's bow-tie or hats. At one point I decided to just buy a crappy pre-made costume, at another point we almost scrapped our idea and picked new costumes. We went around to four thrift stores, three costume/party stores, a TJ Maxx, a Marshalls, two Walmarts, a Payless, a Target, and a Kohls before I found something I could wear.
At one of the costume shops we saw a 50s diner waitress outfit, which actually goes better w/ Cj's soda jerk costume idea than just the poodle skirt thing. They only had it in a large though and it was a lot of money for a pretty poorly made costume so we decided to keep searching for a skirt and I was going to wear an apron and a black short sleeve button-up over a white polo. This isn't my costume, personally I think mine is cuter, but the inspiration was something like this:

But when we got to Kohls I found this perfect mock-layer dress, it looks totally 50s. It's about knee length, the skirt is full and flowy rather then the straight pencil skirts that I've been seeing everywhere else, it has a high waistband and the top is a white satin-ish material with little black polka dots and it's low and ruffly. I bought a blue short-sleeve button up to wear under it and an apron to go over it. I kept worrying about looking too much like a maid, but Cj and our roomate, Ricardo, said it looks perfect. Cj's words were "It looks like you're about to serve me a slice of pie" lol.
So our new theme is like a 50s diner/drive-in, instead of just broad 50s, and I think my costume is actually cuter than the poodle skirt would have been. I also decided on buying these:

Roller Derby Classic 300 Skates, white with teal wheels. They go absolutely perfectly with my costume, but I've also been wanting skates for a while. I wanted roller blades, but I've also been really interested in roller derby, so It'll be awesome to be able to try them out and see if I have a chance. Plus I'm just like in love with them, they're so me, they're beautiful. XD
All we have left to do aside for clean and get food for the party is buy an extra apron, make paper hats, and figure out what to do with my hair. I want to buy rollers and try to curl my hair, I'm also probably going to dye it back to my lighter blonde. I want to do sort of the pin-up style hair, because I think i'd be able to do something cool with the paper hat and some bobby pins if I can pull it off. But I'm pretty terrible at styling hair so we'll see. If I can't figure out the bangs and get it to fall that nicely I might get a headband and try the first hairstyle below, just pulled back in the front and then the curls in the rest.

I just answered this Featured Question; you can answer it too! |
